School Reviews

There are times when senior management in schools need an external view of aspects of their educational provision.

Jan specializes in reviews of SEN, ESL and inclusion provision, both in mainstream (primary and secondary) and special schools.  The aim is for schools to develop outstanding SEN provision.  We offer termly, annual or bi-annual “health checks” to fit in with your self-evaluation timetables.  Jan’s reviews provide;

Jan’s reviews provide

  • Clear information on what is working well, and what can be improved
  • Careful assessment and evaluation of standards
  • Recommendations and action planning for improvement
  • Links to available resources, materials and training packages to facilitate change
  • Reviews comprise a one or two day review (depending upon size of the provision) of standards of SEN provision within a mainstream school or special school, based upon the Ofsted framework

Reviews of SEN provision*2

Jan provides reviews as follows;

  • A 1 – 2 day review of SEN provision (by Jan)
  • As part of a team of reviewers commissioned by a mainstream or independent school – Jan’s focus is on SEN
  • Leading a team (Jan + members of the school’s SLT) to review standards in a special school
  • Contributing to a team of reviewers in a special school (maintained or independent)
  • Jan is very experienced in reviewing HI/VI, ASD, MLD, BESD designated provisions within mainstream settings

Advice and guidance on development of SEN provision (especially for international schools)*3

  • As a follow up to school reviews, or commissioned external consultancy, Jan provides regular briefings on SEN to schools she works with, and develops resources and materials for their use

Support and training for SENCos*4

  • Jan provides regular briefing and materials for individual SENCos she works with
  • Jan provides training support for SENCos through the Buckinghamshire Learning Trust

Support & training for Leadership & Management (Senior and Middle)*5

  • Jan specialises in raising standards in leadership and management in special school and PRU settings, and provides workshops, coaching & mentoring, briefings and resources to support their work
